About DC-AMS
The DC-AMS is a non-profit organization that promotes the development and dissemination of knowledge of the atmosphere, oceanic and hydrologic sciences and the advancement of their professional applications. The Chapter is an autonomous local chapter of the American Meteorological Society (AMS). Membership is open to anyone who is interested in these sciences.

Activities include:

  • Monthly events and/or meetings featuring themes in networking, outreach and education as it relates to the atmospheric, oceanic, and/or hydrologic sciences.
  • Middle school and high school science fair judging. Winners selected from these events are invited to a banquet recognizing their accomplishments and encouraging these students to continue on an educational path leading to a career in the sciences.
  • A generous scholarship program, in which the DC-AMS and its corporate sponsors reward local college-bound students.
  • Joint activities with the local college/university AMS Student Chapters.

If you are employed or interested in the sciences and you want to play an active role in educating the Washington DC community about the atmospheric, oceanic, hydrologic or related sciences, you are encouraged to join us! If you are looking for the AMS's D.C. office, please visit ametsoc.org.
