A major role the DC-AMS chapter fills is developing the region's youth through science fairs, scholarships, and mentoring. These outreach activities serve to initiate and develop an interest in the atmospheric, oceanic, and earth sciences in students, especially those in middle or high school. A more thorough description of our community services are provided below:

Science Fair Judging and Banquet:

DC-AMS members volunteer their time as judges for science fairs across Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Judges select outstanding science fair projects in the weather, climate, and water disciplines and present the students with a certificate of achievement. The winners, along with a parent or guardian, are invited to attend our final meeting of the year, the annual Science Fair Awards Banquet. This is typically held in early June. The students' projects are displayed and overall awards are given to the students.
