About the speaker

David Hoadley, 66, storm chaser for 48 years ("longest storm-chasing career" per the Guinness World Records, 2001) has driven over 734,000 miles in 22 states and seen 158 tornadoes.  Having begun storm chasing as a teenager in Bismarck, ND, he is a self-taught weather enthusiast, who has developed his own forecast technique to find tornadoes.  He began "Storm

Track" in 1977, which has become the national storm chaser's newsletter (now published on-line by Tim Marshall, see www.stormtrack.org).

Mr. Hoadley is a liberal arts graduate (BA, Political Science, Indiana U.; and MA, Foreign Affairs, U. of Virginia).  He retired from the Office of Water, EPA in January 2003 after 39 years of Government service.

His photography and articles about him have been published in national and international magazines, newspapers and the broadcast media, including Time-Life, National Geographic, Scientific American, the Chicago Tribune, USA Today, ABC's Day One and The History Channel.  He has written articles for Storm Track, the World Meteorological Organization, and the AMS Bulletin ( April, 1981; Vol. 62, No. 4: "A Tropical Storm David Tornado in

Fairfax County, September, 1979" )
